Welcome to the 2024 Counseling Regulatory Boards Summit!
Regulatory Leaders,
We have had an exciting year of growth and change in regulation and in the counseling profession overall. It is wonderful to be together for this Counseling Regulatory Boards Summit in Puerto Rico, where development and resiliency are in full, vibrant display. The communities of Puerto Rico are filled with beautiful buildings, standing strong together, connected by shared walls, and lining streets formed of stones weathered by storms but holding fast to a firm foundation. Like these buildings, we know the regulatory community is stronger when we are connected, when we are learning together and developing systems to recognize and support that connection. We also know the path to a healthy, productive society is forged by shared, available, accessible services, and any licensure that regulates the professionals providing those services must be responsive to the factors that impact how and where the professionals work.
Equitable access and public protections go hand-in-hand in a world where professionals are on the move, working, traveling, and serving their equally mobile clients in offices and digital spaces. Regulation in this contemporary world requires professionals to be cognizant of the laws of many states and jurisdictions and requires regulators to have efficient means of sharing data and information. Compacts, universal licensure, telehealth service delivery, artificial intelligence tools, and cohesive standards all help to ensure that professionals in mental health fields and other health professions are able to serve the public in safe and effective ways. These connected tools, legislative opportunities, and systems require the regulatory community to continue to learn and grow together.
This Summit is intended to offer opportunities for learning together and for tackling complicated issues with collaboration and future-focused attention. The need for more counselors to serve communities with ever-expanding mental health needs is clear. The imperative that these professionals be properly trained and public protections be in place is obvious. The importance of facilitating processes and steps in systems of licensure and public protection with efficiency is paramount in a world with limited resources. The intersection of regulation and workforce expansion brings us to the heart of the matter: How do we ensure efficiency in regulation, maximize mobility of professionals and recognition of the license, and protect the public? During this Summit, we will delve into this topic with an exploration of the impact of connected data systems, collaborative discussions about supervision requirements, and a deep dive into artificial intelligence. We’ll hear from experts in telemental health laws and policies that guide decision-making for regulators. Through sessions that invite discussion and encourage critical analysis of challenges, we’ll envision together strategies for enhancing and strengthening regulation.
As we open this Summit, we invite you to bring your enthusiasm, your creativity, your innovative, entrepreneurial spirit, and your insights. This Summit and this community are better and stronger because you are part of both.
Thank you for being here! Welcome to the 2024 Counseling Regulatory Boards Summit!
